The recorded story comes from Wakiso District in the central region of Uganda, home to the Baganda people who speak Luganda. The region is known for its rich and fertile soil, and maize is a primary crop. Hare and Hyena, who are good friends, plant crops together to prepare for an upcoming drought. However, Hare's greed leads him to deceive Hyena and take a larger share of the harvest. The story is a folk tale from Central Uganda.
