Lion and Rat
Lion and Rat
Tooro, located in western Uganda, is one of the country's five traditional kingdoms. The Batooro people, who speak the Rutooro language, have a rich cultural heritage that includes oral traditions, tribal customs, and a strong sense of self-worth. Like all African children, Tooro children are taught to be compassionate and practice kindness towards others.
In this Tooro folklore, Rat is playing with friends and accidentally drops a stone on sleeping Lion, who becomes angry and threatens to eat Rat. But Rat pleads with Lion, promising to help him someday. Despite being weak and tiny, Rat must find a way to assist the strong and powerful Lion. This story teaches children not to underestimate their abilities and to believe that they can accomplish great things.
