The story of the Cat and Rat is based on folklore about why cats and rats are not friends anymore. In the beginning, cats and rats used to be good friends who played and worked together. However, their friendship ended after Rat did something to make Cat very angry.

This story originates from Acoliland, a cultural region in Northern Uganda, specifically recorded in the Gulu District. The Acoli people, who reside in this area and speak the Leb-Acoli language, consume sweet potatoes, which are a staple in many Ugandan tribes. Groundnuts are considered a special delicacy among the Acoli people, roasted and ground into a paste, which is often used as a sauce or stew mixed in vegetables and meat dishes.
