This story was recorded in Northern Uganda, in a cultural region known as Acoliland.

Acoliland is home to the Acoli people who speak the Lëb Acoli language. There are eight districts that constitute Acoliland and they include Gulu, Kitgum, Pader, Lamwo, Agago, Nwoya, Omoro, and Amuru.

The story of Lagoro has been told for many years. It is a myth about the formation of a mysterious mountain, located in the Pader District, in Latanya village.
